247 - A group of federal deputies from the PT (Workers' Party) filed a request for the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to declare the President of the United States, Donald Trump, as "persona non grata" in Brazil, reports Igor Gadelha, from [source missing]. Metropolis.

The initiative came from Representatives Luiz Couto (PT-PB) and Alexandre Lindenmeyer (PT-RS), in the form of a recommendation to the Federal Executive, and received support from 20 other members of the PT caucus in the Chamber of Deputies, which currently has 67 members.

Arguments of the deputies

In the document, the parliamentarians cite what they describe as "aggressions perpetrated" by Trump against Brazil and its institutions. Among the episodes mentioned are the increase in trade tariffs imposed on the country and the revocation of visas for Brazilian authorities, including that of Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

According to the congressmen, these measures constitute attacks on national sovereignty and require a firm diplomatic response. They argue that declaring Trump "persona non grata" would be the most appropriate way to signal that Brazil does not accept violations of this kind.

Defense of sovereignty

“The request does not represent an act of hostility on the part of Brazil, but a legitimate defense of its sovereignty and the dignity of its institutions,” the parliamentarians state. According to the text, “silence in the face of an aggression of such magnitude would create a dangerous and unacceptable precedent, signaling to the world a supposed willingness to tolerate the violation of its independence.”

The authors also emphasize that the measure aligns with the constitutional duty to protect the democratic rule of law and the autonomy of the judiciary.
