Paulo Motoryn, Brazil of Fact - Federal deputies Charlles Evangelista (PP-MG) and Capitão Alberto Neto (PL-AM), who are supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), went to the United States at the expense of the Chamber of Deputies and held a meeting with a Trump-supporting senator who contested Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential elections.

The trip by the Bolsonaro-supporting duo was considered an "official mission" and was paid for by the Legislative branch. Considering the cost of airfare and daily allowances for lodging and food, the amount reached R$ 17.627,30 in the case of Captain Alberto Neto, and R$ 13.393,08 in the case of Charlles Evangelista.

In total, the public money invested in the trip was R$ 31.020,38. The official justification was the participation of both in the Parliamentary Forum on Intelligence and Security in Washington DC, the capital of the United States, which brought together congressmen from various countries. The event lasted from December 5th to 7th.

During their schedule, Captain Alberto Neto and Charlles Evangelista found time for a meeting with Trump supporter Senator Jake Landford. On the day of the Capitol invasion, January 6, 2021, the congressman was speaking against the election results when he was interrupted by coup-supporting protesters.

Re-elected to the United States Senate about a month ago, Landford is a far-right American politician and one of Donald Trump's main allies. The agenda of the meeting between the Brazilian federal deputies and Landford is not listed in the travel reports filed on the Chamber's website.

The meeting took place during a breakfast on December 7th and was not recorded on the social media accounts of either Bolsonaro supporters or the Trumpist politician. Brasil de Fato was unable to contact the press offices of the Brazilian congressmen. The space remains open for comments.

The invasion of the Capitol and the contesting of the election results by Donald Trump and his supporters have served as inspiration for a coup movement in Brazil that contests the victory of president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the October presidential elections.
