After sabotaging vaccination, Bolsonaro now says he is in favor of vaccines.

"It was the government that bought 400 million doses of vaccines. They keep accusing me of being against the vaccine, but how can I be against it if I bought 400 million doses?"

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - President Jair Bolsonaro denied on Monday that he is against vaccination against Covid-19, stating that the federal government has acquired 400 million doses of vaccines against the disease, and affirmed that inflation will fall this year, after closing 2021 with a rise of 10,06%.

In an interview with Rádio Viva, from Espírito Santo, Bolsonaro also stated that he will have problems in this year's election if he decides to seek a second term, while at the same time saying he believes he is fulfilling a divine mission in the Presidency and promised to fight to, according to him, not allow a reversal.

"Let me make it very clear, it was our government that bought 400 million doses of vaccines. They continue to accuse me of being against the vaccine, but how can I be against it if I bought 400 million doses?", said the president.

"What I brought into the debate in recent weeks was the discussion about vaccinating children aged 5 to 11. In other words, our will, that of the Ministry of Health, prevailed, where children can be vaccinated as long as their parents authorize it," he added.

Bolsonaro, who claims not to have been vaccinated against Covid-19, says, for example, contradicting scientific evidence, that those who contracted and recovered from the disease, like him, have greater immunity against the coronavirus than that provided by vaccines.

The president has also criticized those he calls "vaccine fanatics" and questioned, once again contradicting evidence, the effectiveness and safety of the Covid vaccine in children. He also said he will not vaccinate his 11-year-old daughter.

Bolsonaro acknowledged that unemployment and high inflation are problems, while again blaming the restrictive measures adopted by governors and mayors to contain the spread of Covid-19, but stated that inflation will cool down in 2022.

"We will continue fighting unemployment, and you can be sure that inflation will go down this year," he promised.

The president also accused the left of seeking power by destroying family values and said that his opponents attack him because they want him to give up.

"I'm not going to give up. I'm not attached to this position, but I understand that I'm here on a mission from God. After all, He saved my life in 2018," he said, referring to the stabbing he suffered during the election campaign.

"So the mission is set. Obviously, we're going to have problems in a possible reelection, but we have to fight so that we don't have to backtrack," he stated, without specifying what problems he will face.
