After illegally imprisoning Lula for 580 days, Moro accuses the president of "hate speech."
Former judge suspected of wrongdoing attacked the president one day after being humiliated by Pope Francis.
247 - During his participation in the “Brazil Conference at Harvard & MIT” in Boston, United States, the former judge considered biased by the Supreme Federal Court and now senator Sergio Moro defended Jair Bolsonaro and launched attacks against former president Lula.
Moro said that despite criticism of Jair Bolsonaro's government for spreading fake news, it is Lula's government that propagates "hate speech," referring to Lula's statements about the PCC case and the handling of the process being a "setup."
"I'm not going to go into details, but we can recall the events of last week involving statements by the President of the Republic, including statements by myself, and statements by the government's Secretary of Communication," said Moro.
Moro's statement comes a day after Pope Francis's interview in which he stated that President Lula was a victim of political persecution and that former President Dilma Rousseff suffered an unjust impeachment process.
"Lawfare opens its way into the media. They want to prevent a certain person from reaching a position. So, they disqualify him and raise suspicions of a crime. Then, they create a whole summary, a huge summary, where no evidence of the crime is found, but to convict, the size of that summary is enough. 'Where is the crime here?' 'But, yes, it seems so...' That's how they convicted Lula," the Pope stated.
Media regulation
Moro also took the opportunity to join the chorus of Bolsonaro supporters against the proposed media regulation, saying that the proposal threatens freedom of expression.
"Giving the Executive branch the power to oversee the networks is very risky. This project needs to be debated and significantly improved," he stated.
