Federal Police delegate ordered the burning of documents linked to the Parallel Intelligence Agency, investigation reveals.
A report from the Federal Police states that the destruction occurred in a Federal Police hangar the day before the operation and involves files about electronic voting machines and the First Mile system.
247 - The Federal Police revealed, in its final report on the investigation of the so-called Parallel ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency), that delegate Carlos Afonso Coelho ordered the burning of documents while he was already a target of the investigation. According to the column by journalist [name missing]. Fabio SerapionAccording to Metrópoles, Carlos Afonso held leadership positions at the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (ABIN) during Alexandre Ramagem's tenure and is among those indicted in the case investigating the illegal use of ABIN resources and structures for political purposes. After leaving the agency, he was appointed coordinator of Operational Aviation (CAOP) within the Federal Police itself, a position from which he ordered the destruction of documents and agendas.
The Federal Police report indicates that the incineration of the material took place on January 22, 2024, in the corporation's hangar in Brasília. "The order to burn documents in the Federal Police Hangar, issued the day before the execution of search and seizure warrants, constitutes blatantly suspicious conduct that evidences a deliberate attempt to destroy evidence," says a section of the corporation's document, according to the report.
Part of the destroyed material was later recovered by experts from the Federal Police. Analysis of the fragments allowed them to identify the relationship between the documents and the activities of ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency). One of the papers, according to the forensic analysis, is compatible with the digital file “BRIEFING_URNAS_2020_V20.docx”, created on November 16, 2020, which dealt with issues related to the security of electronic voting machines.
Investigators stressed the seriousness of the destruction, highlighting both the sensitive nature of the site where the burning occurred and the nature of the destroyed material, which is directly related to the subject of the investigation – especially regarding the First Mile system and the integrity of the ballot boxes.
"The convergence of these elements, considered as a whole, with all due respect, does not allow for any interpretation other than that there was coordinated and intentional action to eliminate evidence relevant to the investigation," concludes the Federal Police.
