Alexandre Ramagem, former head of ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) and current federal deputy, maintained a reserved stance after being convicted and did not comment. Meanwhile, lawyer Eumar Novacki, who defends former Justice Minister Anderson Torres, stated that the defense received the decision calmly, even after insisting there was evidence of his innocence. The legal team is awaiting the publication of the judgment to assess the next steps.

Bolsonaro's defense challenges the First Panel's ruling.

Meanwhile, Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) defense reacted with indignation to the conviction. In a statement, lawyers Paulo Amador da Cunha Bueno and Celso Vilardi stated that, although they respect the Court's decision, there is "profound disagreement" with the adopted grounds. "We will continue to maintain that the former president did not attack the Democratic State, never participated in any plan, and much less in the acts that occurred on January 8," highlights a passage from the statement.

Criticisms of the way the process was conducted

Bolsonaro's defense also pointed out that the trial should have taken place in the first instance or in the full Supreme Court, and not just in the First Chamber. Another point of criticism was the time considered insufficient for the analysis of the evidence. According to the lawyers, this compromised the full right to defense.

Bueno classified the sentences as "excessive and disproportionate" and stated that the appropriate appeals will be filed. "After analyzing the terms of the judgment, we will file the appropriate appeals, including at the international level."
