Anderson Torres' defense cites suicide risk in new habeas corpus petition.
The defense argues for the need for home-based treatment to prevent crises and suicide.
247 - Anderson Torres' defense team has filed a new habeas corpus petition with the Supreme Federal Court (STF), alleging that the former minister is at risk of suicide due to a worsening of his mental state, the newspaper reported. The GlobeThe psychiatrist from the Federal District Health Department issued a certificate stating that Torres cannot attend hearings for a week due to medical issues.
The medical report from April 22nd, which accompanied the habeas corpus petition, states that the risk of attempted suicide has increased, corroborating the previous report from April 10th. The defense also indicates the need for home confinement to prevent crises and suicide.
"Corroborating the report of April 10, 2023, which, it should be reiterated, already indicated a risk of suicide, the psychiatrist from the public health network, this time in a report prepared on April 22, 2023, recorded that: 'within this context, the risk of attempted suicide is increasing'. Also with the aim of containing these crises and preventing suicide, I recommend home hospitalization (to improve protective factors for prevention)," says an excerpt from the report.
Another habeas corpus petition from the defense, already evaluated by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF), includes a medical report that points to an increase in anxiety attacks, crying spells, and weight loss on the part of the former Secretary of Security of the Federal District.
A group of opposition congressmen and senators also filed a request with the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to visit Anderson Torres at the battalion where he has been imprisoned since January. Among the group's members are Hamilton Mourão, Damares Alves, Ciro Nogueira, Rogério Marinho, Marcos Pontes, Carlos Portinho, and Eduardo Girão. The defense claims that the main objective of the habeas corpus is to protect the patient's life.
