247 - Federal Deputy Décio Lima (PT-SC) observes that the labor and pension reforms of Michel Temer's government aim at "the dismantling of the Democratic Rule of Law, the sacred rights of workers and pensions, as well as the handing over of national wealth and the privatization of strategic state-owned companies for the affirmation of national sovereignty." According to him, the current government is the result of "a kind of conspiracy composed of groups from the media, parliament, and the judiciary that dominated the Brazilian scene in 2016." He believes the situation will only change with the mobilization of the population.

"Next year we will have to continue our fight against regression. The dismantling of social security aims to prevent the retirement of rural and urban workers. This measure will place a nation of elderly people in conditions of social misery. Our youth will be without prospects for the future," he emphasizes. "If all these attacks on Brazilian workers weren't enough, the labor reform intends to prioritize negotiated agreements over legislation. The guarantee of the CLT (Consolidation of Labor Laws) will be at risk, as will years of struggle for workers' rights," the parliamentarian concludes.

"2017 will be a year of much mobilization and struggle for the working class; only unity and struggle will guarantee victory for those who have historically been penalized during periods of economic recession," he concludes.
