247 - Journalist Joaquim de Carvalho points out that the police operation carried out at the home of former President Lula's son, Marcos Cláudio, in Paulínia, in the Campinas region, clearly demonstrates the failure of public security policy in the richest state in the federation and why drug trafficking in São Paulo has exploded in the last twenty years.
"Conducting a search and seizure at someone's home based on an anonymous tip reveals more than just a willingness to persecute the family of a political leader. It reveals ineptitude, and that includes the judge who authorized such an aggressive measure based on an anonymous complaint," he states. Since they found nothing, "perhaps so as not to waste the trip, they seized documents, CDs, and DVDs that were on the premises," he observes.
"It would be almost comical if it weren't such a tragic mess. In any city in Brazil, it's not difficult to know where drug trafficking takes place," Carvalho points out in the text, even mentioning the participation of police officers in the illegal drug sales scheme in the state.
"That's why one of the most coveted positions for police officers in São Paulo, after the tax police, is the narcotics department. There, the business opportunities are enormous," he denounces.
"Over time, these actions contribute to further demoralizing an institution that has always been viewed with great distrust," he concludes.
