247 - The current leadership of the Armed Forces has been working to shield General Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, former Minister of Defense and former Army Commander, from investigations into an alleged coup plot supposedly hatched by Jair Bolsonaro (PL), military advisors, and ministers who were part of his government.

“On the other hand, the High Command has reinforced its criticism of former ministers from Jair Bolsonaro's military wing, such as Generals Walter Braga Netto and Augusto Heleno,” says the journalist. Beautiful Megale in his column in the newspaper O Globo. >>> Former military commanders reported to the Federal Police meetings about a coup plot with Bolsonaro's Minister of Defense.

According to the report, the military claims that Nogueira held a position of a "political nature," which would make him "more susceptible" to pressure from the then-president, both before and after the 2022 presidential election. According to members of the High Command, Nogueira's decision to leave the Army to assume the Ministry of Defense would have been a "bad trade" for the general. >>> In his testimony to the Federal Police, Freire Gomes says that Bolsonaro presented two draft coup proposals.

Along these lines, General Freire Gomes, who also commanded the Army during the Bolsonaro administration, directly implicated the former president and General Paulo Sérgio in the coup plot during his testimony to the Federal Police. >>> Those under investigation for fraud fear that Freire Gomes may have revealed much more than Mauro Cid.

Nogueira's image alongside ministers of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) is also viewed with reservations, with negative assessments of his conduct had he been in charge of the Army during Bolsonaro's defeat in the elections. >>> Increasingly implicated in the investigations, Braga Netto tells associates that he did not push for a coup.

While Nogueira finds support among some sectors of the Armed Forces, the situation is different for other military ministers who have accompanied Bolsonaro since the beginning of his government, such as Walter Braga Netto and Augusto Heleno. The current military leadership believes they were excessively subservient to Bolsonaro. >>> Freire Gomes says he told Bolsonaro that the military found no fraud in the voting machines.

"The most neglected general is Braga Netto, especially because of the attacks he orchestrated against his fellow soldiers and their families. The military officer, however, has offered a mea culpa regarding the criticism that came to light through the Federal Police investigations, and says he regrets having 'acted with his gut'," the report highlights.
