247 - At the initiative of the Paz e Bem channel, associated with 247, hundreds of people are carrying out a day of fasting this Thursday (7) in memory of Arthur Lula da Silva, just 7 years old, who died seven days ago victim of meningococcal meningitis, and in solidarity with Lula, his grandfather, and Marlene and Sandro, his parents.
Fasting, explained Mauro Lopes, can have several dimensions and the action will extend until this Friday: "Those who wish to join this action can fast by skipping one or two meals, or fast for 24 hours, completely abstaining from food during this period." The action extends until the evening of this Friday (8).
The names of those who participate in the fasting for Lula and his family will be sent to the former president himself, as well as to Marlene and Sandro, Arthur's parents. Those wishing to join can send their name to mauropazebem@gmail.com
Fasting is a practice in virtually all spiritual traditions and was used as an instrument of political struggle by one of history's greatest pacifists. Mahatma GandhiYou can watch the Peace and Goodness program where the initiative was launched at the end of this report.
The text from the Paz e Bem channel that presented the fasting journey was this:
"The Peace and Goodness of this Thursday (7) takes place on the seventh day after the death of Arthur Lula da Silva and brings an invitation-call to all who wish to have their hearts united with his parents and grandfather, Lula. It is difficult to say any words that console at a time like this. Death is always a mystery and looms over us even more terrifyingly when the one who dies is a child."
In the case of Arthur and his family, the abysmal pain of loss is compounded by the context: cruel and persistent persecution of Lula and his family. Little Arthur himself suffered firsthand, as a child, a boy, at a very young age, the burning iron of slander, hatred, and bullying, as President Lula revealed to the country.
What to do?
The Peace and Goodness movement then presented the following invitation-proposal: that we fast in memory of Arthur and in a loving embrace of the Silva family, especially his parents, Sandro and Marlene, and Lula. We cannot embrace Lula, but our fast will reach his cell in Curitiba as a very warm hug.
Fasting is a recurring practice in all paths of spirituality. Currently, many Christians of various denominations who celebrate Lent are fasting on certain days; soon, starting May 5th with the beginning of Ramadan, Muslims will begin their month-long fast, eating frugally only at sunset each day. People of Judaism, Candomblé, Umbanda, Santo Daime, and other spiritual paths have their periods of fasting.
Fasting is silencing the body, it's experiencing the life-death-life rhythm that guides us all. What is the purpose of a solitary fast? How is this actually a concrete action of support for Lula? It is one of the most relevant actions we can take, as Gandhi taught us. In the program about Zen Buddhist spirituality on Paz e Bem, on the 27th, Professor Faustino Teixeira explained to us the beautiful concept of resonance. Everything resonates in the universe. Everything reverberates and mysteriously interferes in the flow of life.
Our fast will resonate, all the way to the cell in Curitiba, all the way to Marlene and Sandro's home in ABC.
Do what you can, whether it's skipping one meal (breakfast, lunch, or dinner), two meals, or fasting for 24 or 48 hours. The choice is yours.
Don't forget to send your name. Let's embrace Lula, Marlene, and Sandro with our fasting. Let's celebrate Arthur's memory.
