The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) of Petrobras requested this Wednesday (20) the Federal Police and Interpol to issue a preventive arrest warrant for the representative of the company SBM Offshore in Brazil, Julio Faerman. The official letter was sent by the president of the CPI, Hugo Motta (PMDB-PB). Faerman, who has already been summoned to testify before the commission, has been on the run since March.

Motta justified the request on the grounds that the investigations point to Faerman's participation in the scheme of "embezzlement of public funds" and bribery. The intention of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) is to gather the lobbyist's testimony regarding the payment of bribes for the awarding of contracts between Petrobras and SBM Offshore.

The parliamentarians also decided to summon Faerman's children, Marcelo and Eline, as well as the lobbyist's partner, Luiz Eduardo Barbosa, to testify. The request was made by Congressman Onix Lorenzoni (DEM-RS), before the meeting that took the testimony of the president of Camargo Corrêa, Dalton Avancini, and the director of Galvão Engenharia, Erton Medeiros Fonseca.

The request for Faerman's arrest comes after the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) collected testimony from former SBM Offshore executive Jonathan David Taylor in London. According to the commission's parliamentarians, Jonathan Taylor's statements further incriminated Faerman.

According to Lorenzoni, the former executive allegedly cited Marcelo and Luiz Eduardo as operators of the scheme. Faerman's daughter was summoned because she was his secretary and aware of the lobbyist's schedule.
