Corruption confessed to a spiritual leader (and to Exu) via WhatsApp becomes evidence of corruption in a Social Organizations scheme.
The spiritual leader Diogo Luis Cardoso and the hospital administrator Fernando Rodrigues de Carvalho were part of a scheme that operated in at least four states.
247 - Dialogues between the spiritual leader Diogo Luis Cardoso and the hospital administrator Fernando Rodrigues de Carvalho have become one of the biggest pieces of evidence of corruption involving Social Organizations. Father Diogo, as he is known, lives in Curitiba (PR) and claimed to be a messenger of Exu Caveira, an entity that would help him understand men and their destinies. He operated via WhatsApp and had Carvalho among the faithful who commissioned him to perform rituals against their enemies.
According to a report by newspaper The State of S.PauloThe hospital administrator was recruited by Dr. Cleudson Montali, leader of the corruption scheme that operated in four states, now sentenced to 200 years in prison. The group operated in 27 cities and embezzled R$ 500 million.
One of the messages targeted by investigators is from July 2, 2018. "Could you check with Exu how things are going for me regarding business? I'm looking at a hospital in Araucária (PR)," Carvalho wrote. Diogo replied about 30 minutes later. "Wow, mind reading. I just spoke to Exu about you."
The next day, Carvalho consulted the guide about a bidding process. "Son, Dad lit candles for Exu again a little while ago for you."
Operation X-Ray led to Carvalho's arrest in June 2021.
More dialogue
On September 18, shortly before taking over the management of the scheme at the Carapicuíba Hospital (SP), Carvalho said that "the secretary called." The guide replied: "Hahaha. All the luck in the world for things in São Paulo."
"I also wanted to see with Exu if Cleudson has faith in me enough to share [the funds] or if I'm just an employee to work for him," Carvalho continued.
Diogo replied: "Okay, son, give me the guy's full name." Carvalho insisted: "There are things that involve a lot of money, up to 70 a month to split, not including the salary."
Business grows
As the projects grew, Carvalho said they were going to take on a hospital in Osasco (SP). "A contract worth 9 million a month."
The group began operating in Pará, where Carvalho stated that the participants in the scheme would "make a lot of money."
The disagreements began in April 2019, when Carvalho reported that a colleague was "involved in the Pará business and is looting the Osasco hospital." "He's putting money in the hands of the Cleudson family... A lot of it. It's unsustainable. It's going to end badly."
The priest replied, "I'll take care of this. Wow, this is dangerous." Carvalho showed concern. "It's very strange. Too much money, too easy. The guys he put there don't know anything." The guide said, "Their house of cards will fall soon, you'll see."
Profits rise during the pandemic.
Profits increased during the pandemic. Cleudson set up field hospitals and "pocketed ten million."
"Dad, Cleudson is very shrewd. He's more of a crook than the ones in Osasco. Here (in Pará) he's in cahoots with the governor," he said. And he revealed that they charged R$ 107 million for the hospital in Pará. "It wouldn't have cost 50."
In December 2020, he wrote: "Oh dad, yesterday's meeting was almost a comedy, this time Exu really messed up, you know."
