247 - The president of Correios, Fabiano Silva dos Santos, stated this Friday (31) that the state-owned company's deficit of R$ 3,2 billion last year reflects the dismantling of the company during the attempted privatization in the government of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The statement occurred in the face of the Central Bank's announcement about the alleged deficit recorded by federal state-owned companies in 2024.

"The Post Office was prepared for privatization. The Post Office was neglected. There was no investment in technology. We have large companies that invest in robotizing operations, that invest in modernizing their technological infrastructure, and this is vital for a company like the Post Office," said Fabiano after a meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the Minister of Management, Esther Dweck.

"So this scrapping is a very high price that the company pays. And yes, we are working very hard to innovate," he emphasized.

In addition to the precarious working conditions, the president of the state-owned company also mentioned the impact of the "taxation of blouses," as the Remessa Conforme Program, launched in 2023, is known.

“This result, which was partially disclosed, refers to a specific context, which was the regulation and compliance imposed on these international purchases. This had a significant impact on our company and also on court-ordered payments, which are the result of previous administrations and are now accounted for in our results,” Fabiano highlighted.

Regarding a possible change in the company's presidency, the Minister of Management stated, also on Friday, that the issue was not discussed at the earlier meeting with the head of the Executive branch.

"No. Today, what we discussed with the President of the Republic was Fabiano presenting the company's results, explaining to the President the results presented today, the expectations for the results that will be presented in March, and presenting the restructuring proposals he is making," said Dweck.
