The inspector general says he will investigate judges who participated in an event supporting Lula.

247 - In a statement, the National Justice Inspector, Humberto Martins, informs that he will 'investigate' the judges who participated in the "Good night, President Lula" event, in Curitiba, this Thursday (21).

"The National Justice Ombudsman, Minister Humberto Martins, has ordered an investigation into the participation of magistrates in the 'Good evening, President Lula' event," says the note published on the National Justice Ombudsman's website.

The Paraná Military Police tried, unsuccessfully, to prevent members of the Lula Livre Vigil from performing the now traditional "goodnight, President Lula." The symbolic gesture has been made since the first days of the former president's detention, on April 7, 2018, at the Federal Police headquarters in Curitiba.

During the event, the Paraná military police went to the location and threatened to arrest the leaders of the vigil, as well as a federal judge, Edevaldo Medeiros, who visited Lula in the afternoon.

The police argued that there was a court order prohibiting street demonstrations. In fact, such an order does exist, but the "goodnight" event took place on private property next to the Federal Police headquarters.

But according to the inspector general's statement, the body is alert to the events in Curitiba and will take the necessary measures regarding the magistrates who, by participating in the act, violated the Organic Law of the Judiciary and the Code of Ethics of the Judiciary.

"The National Inspectorate is gathering information about the public event and the participation of magistrates. We will verify if there was any transgression of the provisions of the Organic Law of the Judiciary and the Code of Ethics for the Judiciary in order to subsequently initiate requests for action," said the inspector general.

According to the inspector general himself, he has a list with the names of the magistrates and, based on that document, the minister requested information to verify which magistrates were present at the public event, as there may be both active and retired magistrates. "It is necessary to make this distinction, since inactive magistrates are not subject to the National Council of Justice," he said.
