247 - The substitute judge of the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba, Gabriela Hardt, ordered the former president of the Chamber of Deputies, Eduardo Cunha, imprisoned in connection with the Lava Jato corruption scandal, to house arrest with an electronic ankle monitor due to the coronavirus pandemic. This information comes from... G1.
"Considering the exceptional situation of the Covid-19 virus pandemic, and given that the applicant is a person more vulnerable to the risk of contamination, considering his age and fragile state of health, I hereby replace, for the time being, the preventive detention of Eduardo Consentino da Cunha with house arrest, under electronic monitoring," reads part of the decision.
In a statement, Cunha's defense said that "it took a pandemic and a near-death experience to correct an injustice that lasted for years" and that he already has "the proper time to progress to a less restrictive regime, and his health has been deteriorating for years. Today, justice has been served."
