247 - Invited by Jair Bolsonaro to lead a "humanitarian mission" in Lebanon, former president Michel Temer is prohibited from leaving Brazil without judicial authorization. He is accused of passive corruption and other crimes within the scope of Operation Lava Jato in Rio de Janeiro. Temer was even preventively arrested twice, in March and May of last year.

Last time, the former president was granted freedom after the Sixth Panel of the Superior Court unanimously decided to replace the preventive detention with precautionary measures — including a prohibition on leaving the country without judicial authorization.

Since then, Temer has obtained judicial approval to travel abroad on two occasions to give lectures at the universities of Oxford, in England, in October, and Salamanca, in Spain, in December.

In order to lead the humanitarian mission in Lebanon, shaken by the explosion at the Port of Beirut, the former president will need judicial authorization.

Bolsonaro announced the invitation to Temer this Sunday, during a videoconference with other world leaders about the aid that will be sent to Beirut. In a statement released to the press, Temer said he was honored by the invitation and stated that he awaits the official publication in the Official Gazette to take "the necessary measures to make the task feasible." When contacted, the former president's press office said that this is not related to judicial authorization to travel, but rather to the organization of the mission itself, from the agenda to the ceremony and donations, it informs.
