247 – The United States consulate will open two new visa application centers in São Paulo, in Pinheiros (west zone) and Saúde (south zone), on May 7th, with operations scheduled until Sunday.

With the change in the system, scheduling will be done on a new website starting April 30th, to speed up and reduce the cost of the process, saving up to R$ 58. On the other hand, those doing it for the first time (80% of the total) will have to go twice, on two different days, to an American representation. Currently, only one visit is necessary.

With this, the consulate expects to reduce the average waiting time for interviews from 35 to 20 days. The same will happen with the waiting line – the intention is to reduce it to one hour.

President Barack Obama recently announced that two more US consulates will be opened in Brazil. The units are expected to be operational starting in 2014 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, and Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul.
