Members of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office are calling for the resignation of the Attorney General's Secretary-General who said that God put Bolsonaro in power.
Eitel Santiago stated in an interview that Bolsonaro's opponents need to accept "that God was responsible" for bringing him to power, and that the coronavirus pandemic is "divine will."
247 - Members of the Superior Council of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (CSMPF) have asked the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, to dismiss the Secretary-General of the MPF, Eitel Santiago.
In the document signed by deputy attorneys general and advisors such as Nicolao Dino, Nívio de Freitas Filho, José Callou, and Luiza Frischeisen, they cite the interview given by Santiago to CNN the day before.
Eitel, who was affiliated with the PSL, the party that elected Bolsonaro, stated in the interview that Bolsonaro's opponents need to accept "that God was responsible" for bringing him to power, that the coronavirus pandemic is "divine will," and that "the Almighty will, at the right time, end this suffering."
The number 2 of the Attorney General's Office also stated that former judge Sergio Moro accepted "illegalities" that were allegedly committed "in investigations" and that he gave up the judiciary to enter politics and reach the Supreme Federal Court (STF), implying that, as a minister, he had been disloyal to Bolsonaro after seeing that his name would not pass in the Federal Senate.
"It is absolutely imperative to point out the disagreement and profound discomfort that such statements by Secretary-General Eitel Santiago de Brito Pereira—spoken in disregard of his administrative functions—are causing within the institution, implying, in many respects, undue interference in the sphere of action of other bodies that make up the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office," the prosecutors state in the document.
