"Completely incompetent," Manaus mayor retorts about Bolsonaro.
The mayor of Manaus, Arthur Virgílio Neto, a member of the PSDB party, blamed Bolsonaro for a large portion of the Covid-19 cases and deaths in the country. "Because he encourages people to go out into the streets. He spends his time running around in Brasília instead of taking care of governing. He's walking irresponsibility," he stated.
247 - The mayor of Manaus, Arthur Virgílio Neto (PSDB), reacted to Jair Bolsonaro's statements made in a leaked video of the ministerial meeting, in which he calls the mayor a "bum" and makes malicious insinuations about former senator Arthur Virgílio Filho, the mayor's father, with the expression "well, being the son of who he is".
"I would never offend President Jair Bolsonaro's father. I can say very harsh things to him, such as that he is incapable, completely incompetent, and doesn't know which way the Brazilian government is going. He is not up to the task of governing a large, complex, and valuable country. We are facing a president unprepared for this role," the mayor retorted in an interview with the website. Manaus Alert.
The mayor of Manaus also blamed Bolsonaro for a large part of the Covid-19 cases in the country and the resulting deaths. "Because he encourages people to go out into the streets. He spends his time running around in Brasília instead of taking care of the government. He's walking irresponsibility," he stated.
Regarding the insult made by Bolsonaro, Virgílio said that being called a bum wasn't the problem and took a jab at the clan by mentioning the "rachadinha" scheme.
"It only affected me because he used the expression 'being the son of who he is.' If it weren't for that, I would have given him a piece of my mind, because he's a president who doesn't respect himself. He insulted the memory of my father, one of the greatest parliamentarians in the history of this country. I could be rude and say: 'Hey, but my father never got involved in kickbacks, my father doesn't have a Queiroz in his life, my father wasn't worried about changing the head of the Federal Police to benefit himself or his people,'" he said ironically.
He added: “I am very proud to be the son of who I am. My father was a valiant man who brought electricity, brought the University of Amazonas, has a respectable history as a senator, and is admired by the older generation who knew him personally, and by the younger generation who know him through his history. The president's reference to my father is an attempt at a tasteless 'joke,' like the one he himself made regarding Fernando Santa Cruz, father of Felipe, the current president of the Brazilian Bar Association,” he added.
