With his passport under scrutiny by the Supreme Court, Eduardo Bolsonaro takes a leave of absence from the Chamber of Deputies and decides to stay in the USA.

The congressman has been conspiring with foreign allies against Brazilian authorities, alleging supposed political persecution against his father and supporters.

247 - Federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) has decided to remain in the United States and take a four-month leave of absence from his mandate in the Chamber of Deputies, reports Igor Gadelha, from MetropolisEduardo had already told PL leaders that he would return to Brazil on Tuesday (March 18).

“Just as I assumed the parliamentary mandate to represent my nation, I am temporarily abdicating it to continue representing these brothers of the country. I will be taking a leave of absence, without pay, so that I can dedicate myself fully and seek the appropriate sanctions against human rights violators,” declared Eduardo Bolsonaro.

The congressman has been in the United States since February 27th, the date on which PT (Workers' Party) parliamentarians filed a request with the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to seize his passport. The party accuses Eduardo of attacking national sovereignty by attacking and attempting to organize a reaction against the Brazilian Judiciary from abroad. The case's rapporteur, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, sent the action to the Attorney General's Office (PGR), which failed to meet the five-day deadline to respond to the request.

Eduardo Bolsonaro's continued stay in the US surprised even allies. On Monday (17), the leader of the PL in the Chamber, deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (RJ), had confirmed that the parliamentarian would return to Brazil to assume the presidency of the Foreign Relations Committee (Creden). However, on Tuesday, Sóstenes stated that "everything changed during the night".

With Eduardo's decision to take a leave of absence from his mandate, the PL will need to redefine its strategy for Creden. The party had sought the presidency of the commission precisely to accommodate Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) son, as a counterpoint to the action brought by the PT in the STF.

Eduardo Bolsonaro's absence was also felt in another political scenario. Last Sunday (16), he did not attend the demonstration led by his father, Jair Bolsonaro, in Rio de Janeiro, in defense of amnesty for those convicted for the acts of January 8.
