With cuts in science funding, professor points to exodus of Brazilian scientists.
Brazilian researcher and physicist Rogério Cezar Cerqueira Leite observes that the setbacks promoted by Michel Temer's government in science, through selective cuts, have as their main result the exodus of young researchers and the loss of knowledge; "This government is demolishing the enthusiasm of young Brazilian researchers. And, with that, compromising the future of the country, because it does not realize that, without research, there is no scientific and technological progress. And without this, there is no innovation and competitiveness."

"What can we expect when the federal government reduces the science and technology budget to a third of its previous value? And congressmen are still nibbling at what little is left for amendments that benefit their electoral strongholds. And it's worth remembering that no other ministry, besides the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications, has had a similar budget cut," he points out.
"This government is demolishing the enthusiasm of young Brazilian researchers. And, in doing so, it is compromising the country's future, because it doesn't realize that without research, there is no scientific and technological progress. And without this, there is no innovation and competitiveness, whether in industry, services, or agriculture. The country's leaders don't realize that they are annihilating Brazil's creative youth by stifling scientific activity in Brazil," he states.
