Historic floods have left more than 90% of municipalities in Amazonas state in a state of emergency, affecting more than half a million people.
Residents are concerned about the water quality of the Rio Negro in Manaus.
247 - The water level of the Rio Negro in Manaus continues to rise and reached 29,04 meters this Friday (4), which had not happened since 2014. At least 40 of the 62 municipalities in Amazonas are in a state of emergency and 18 are on alert. More than 530 people have been affected in the state.
The 40 municipalities represent 93% of the cities in Amazonas. Besides the capital, river levels continue to rise in municipalities such as Itacoatiara, bathed by the Amazon River, and Manacapuru, on the banks of the Solimões River.
The situation is worrying because, normally, July is the month when the water begins to recede. The Amazon experiences an annual cycle of floods and droughts in its rivers.
