Celso de Mello, the most senior member of the Supreme Federal Court, defends Janot.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Celso de Mello defended Attorney General Rodrigo Janot during a hearing regarding his impartiality in leading the proceedings against Michel Temer. According to Mello, Janot has performed his duties with "great seriousness" (...), particularly in situations involving relentless and necessary state prosecution of criminals who, in the context of organized crime, undermine the positive legal order of the Brazilian State. At the end of the session, the Supreme Court upheld Janot's leadership of the investigations against Temer.

247 - Justice Celso de Mello, the most senior member of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), defended the Attorney General of the Republic, Rodrigo Janot, during a trial regarding his impartiality in continuing to lead the proceedings against Michel Temer. The STF understood that a fundamental animosity between Janot and Temer that would justify the request for his recusal made by Temer's defense team had not been proven.

"I cannot fail to acknowledge the responsible and independent performance of the eminent Attorney General of the Republic, Dr. Rodrigo Janot, who has led the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Union with great seriousness, attentive to the very serious responsibilities that fall upon the Public Prosecutor's Office, particularly in situations involving relentless and necessary state prosecution against criminals who, in the context of organized crime, attack the positive order of the Brazilian State, committing crimes that have outraged the conscience and disrespected the sense of decency of the people of our country," stated the Dean of the Court.
