Carlos criticizes Mauro Cid, the whistleblower who led to Bolsonaro's conviction.
"Congratulations," the councilman wrote ironically.
247 - Councilman Carlos Bolsonaro (Republicanos-RJ) used social media this Friday (12) to mock Mauro Cid, former aide to Jair Bolsonaro (PL), after the Supreme Federal Court (STF) decision that granted freedom to the military officer and sentenced Bolsonaro to more than 27 years in prison. In a post, the parliamentarian wrote: “Congratulations on what you did in Brazilian history, Mauro Cid!”, referring to the plea bargain that contributed to the conviction of Bolsonaro and others involved in the coup plot.
This Thursday (11), the First Panel of the STF analyzed the sentencing of the defendants convicted in the criminal case. The panel, following the vote of rapporteur Alexandre de Moraes, determined that Cid will serve his sentence in an open regime. He was sentenced to 2 years in prison, receiving the benefit due to the collaboration agreement signed with the Attorney General's Office.
Mauro Cid's testimony and its impact on the trial.
During the trial, Justice Alexandre de Moraes emphasized that Mauro Cid's testimony was "effective and should be valued," an argument that led to the application of the open regime. The other justices of the First Panel agreed with the rapporteur.
By a vote of 4 to 1, the panel convicted Jair Bolsonaro, Mauro Cid, and six other defendants of the crimes of armed criminal organization, attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, coup d'état, aggravated damage through violence and serious threat, and deterioration of listed heritage.
Among the defendants, only Alexandre Ramagem, a sitting federal deputy, had some of the charges against him suspended. He was convicted of three crimes: armed criminal organization, attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, and coup d'état.
