In Brasília, a rally in favor of Dilma Rousseff's impeachment gathered 50 people in front of the National Congress, according to the Military Police. The security plan put together by the local government anticipated up to 5 people, in demonstrations both for and against impeachment.
The events are taking place on the day the Senate begins analyzing the report from the special impeachment committee, which recommends that President Dilma Rousseff be brought to a final trial in the process she faces in Congress. After the discussion of the report, the document will be put to a vote.
In Ceará, the demonstration took place in Praça da Bandeira, in the center of Fortaleza, and gathered around 3 people, according to the organizers. The Military Police did not release an estimate of the crowd size. The demonstrators carried signs and banners against the acting president and consider Dilma's removal a "coup against democracy."
In Maranhão, protests took place in downtown São Luís in the morning. According to organizers, 300 people participated in the demonstration. Participants advocated for Dilma's return and reiterated that a coup is underway in the country.
