Bolsonaro's campaign takes action against polling institutes in the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Superior Electoral Court.

Polls released on the eve of the first round of the election showed results that differed significantly from what was actually counted at the ballot box.

247 - Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) campaign filed a complaint this Tuesday (4) with the Electoral Attorney General's Office and the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) against research institutes, which were largely wrong in their 'prediction' of the result of the first round of the presidential election.

According to the lawyers representing Bolsonaro, they want to Folha de S. Paul, an investigation into alleged irregularities or crimes in the release of figures that differed from those obtained at the end of voting on Sunday (2).

The petitions are addressed to the electoral inspector general, Benedito Gonçalves, and the electoral attorney general, Augusto Aras. The Ministry of Justice has also been contacted by Bolsonaro supporters. The minister of the department, Anderson Torres, stated that he forwarded the request to the Federal Police.

"Both hypotheses presented—fraudulent research or false research—lead to the same naturalistic effect: misinformation," argued Bolsonaro's lawyers.

The complaints target the institutes (or companies that fund them) Ipec, Datafolha, Ipespe, FSB, Genial, PoderData, Atlas, MDA, and Paraná Pesquisas.

"The possible reasons for discrepancies in results exceeding the published margins of error; and what measures are being taken to prevent this scenario from repeating itself in the second round of the 2022 elections and in future elections," says Bolsonaro's campaign.
