The number of murders in Brazil is falling, according to the Ministry of Justice.
According to Minister Flávio Dino, the number of violent deaths in 2023 (excluding those committed by police officers) was the lowest since 2010.
247 - The Ministry of Justice and Public Security, headed by Flávio Dino, reported this Tuesday (30) that Brazil registered a 4% drop in murders in 2023, compared to the previous year. In 2023, there were 40.464 intentional homicides (with intent to kill), femicides, robberies resulting in death and bodily injuries followed by death, compared to 42.190 in 2022.
The data does not include deaths resulting from police violence. These deaths decreased by 2,3%, from 6.445 to 6.296. According to the minister, the number of violent deaths in 2023 (excluding those committed by police officers) is the lowest since 2010.
The Minister of Justice commented on the statistics: "Numbers sent by the States to the Ministry of Justice, within the scope of SINESP, show that we had the lowest number of intentional lethal violent crimes (CVLI) in the last 14 years. My congratulations to the Public Security professionals of Brazil. And may there be new achievements in 2024."
