CAE should vote on the bill regarding taxes on fintechs and betting next week, according to Renan Calheiros.
The President of the Economic Affairs Committee confirms the postponement of the vote following a request from rapporteur Eduardo Braga for adjustments to the tax text.
247 - The president of the Senate Economic Affairs Committee (CAE), Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL), stated this Tuesday (4) that Bill No. 5.473/2025, which increases taxation on fintechs and sports betting (bets), will not be voted on this week. The expectation, according to him, is that the text will only be considered at the next meeting of the committee.
The information was published by Broadcast (Agência Estado). Renan explained that the vote, initially scheduled for Wednesday (5), was postponed at the request of the rapporteur, Senator Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM). “It will not be voted on tomorrow, because the rapporteur asked for more time. It should be postponed until next week. But we will vote here,” declared the president of the CAE to journalists, upon leaving the committee session.
Braga justified the postponement by saying that there are still technical and political points to be resolved in the text, especially regarding the increase in the Social Contribution on Net Profit (CSLL) for insurance companies, which would rise to 15%. "I think that, to make adjustments, we might have to leave it for next week," the rapporteur stated.
When questioned about possible additions to the bill, the senator did not rule out resuming the discussion on Interest on Equity (JCP), a topic that had been proposed in Provisional Measure No. 1.303, but removed by Renan Calheiros when drafting the bill. Braga also said that he intends to discuss the matter with the Ministry of Finance before finalizing the report. "Throughout this Tuesday, I will be talking with representatives from the Ministry of Finance," he stated, emphasizing that there is no in-person meeting scheduled. He also plans to meet with sectoral entities to align any necessary adjustments.
