SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Brazil's Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) and the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) have approved the purchase of the health plan operator Amil by businessman José Seripieri Filho, according to rulings released this Wednesday.

As published in the Official Gazette of the Union, CADE (Brazil's antitrust authority) approved the operation without restrictions. The ANS (Brazilian National Agency for Supplementary Health) document states a final purchase price of up to 2 billion reais.

UnitedHealth, a US company, announced in late December that it had approved a deal to sell Amil to the founder and former president of Qualicorp for approximately 11 billion reais, in a transaction that included debt from the Brazilian company.

At the time, UnitedHealth announced that it would record $7 billion in charges related to the sale.

UnitedHealth CEO Andrew Witty announced the decision to sell Amil, acquired in 2012 for $5 billion, shortly after taking over in 2021.
