247 - The executive secretary of the Ministry of Health, João Gabbardo dos Reis, stated this Wednesday, the 11th, that Brazil will register a sharp increase in the number of people infected by the new coronavirus (covid-19).

“We know that, in the coming days, in the coming weeks, Brazil will behave identically to any of these countries. That is, from one hour to the next, in two or four weeks, we will go through a graph like this, with an extraordinary number of sick people, with symptoms,” said the secretary, during a public hearing at the Senate's Transparency and Consumer Protection Committee.

The World Health Organization considers the outbreak of the new coronavirus a pandemic, Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday.

“We are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity and by the alarming levels of inaction. Therefore, we assess that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic,” he stated in a press conference.

To date, 4.291 people have died and more than 118 cases have been recorded in 114 countries. "This is a crisis that will affect all sectors," he added.
