247 - Brazil and Indonesia formalized this Thursday (23) a cooperation agreement on sanitary, phytosanitary and certification measures, consolidating a new stage in bilateral relations in the agricultural sector. The information was published by Agência Estado and released after the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, and the head of the Indonesian Quarantine Authority (IQA), Sahat Manaor Panggabean, in Jakarta, during the visit of the Brazilian presidential delegation.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the agreement aims to strengthen technical cooperation between the two countries, focusing on food security and trade in agricultural products. The document provides for the exchange of information on sanitary and phytosanitary policies, as well as advances in electronic certification, pre-border inspections, and joint investigations in cases of fraud or sanitary risk.

Among the main points of the memorandum are the mutual recognition of equivalent sanitary measures, the technical training of professionals, and the exchange of experiences focused on surveillance, traceability, and emergency response. The actions also aim to facilitate trade in agricultural products between the two nations.

“Great opportunities are opening up for Brazilian agribusiness. Brazil already has a good trade relationship with Indonesia and seeks to advance even further, including the resolution of the dispute over the export of Brazilian chicken meat to the country,” stated Carlos Fávaro. According to the minister, “the opening of this market, in addition to the expansion of coffee and cotton exports, reinforces the role of agribusiness as a pillar of the relationship between Brazil and Indonesia.”

During the visit, Fávaro also met with the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, and the Minister of Commerce, Budi Santoso. The authorities presented Indonesia's national school lunch program, aimed at expanding access to quality food for children. The Brazilian government expressed interest in including Brazilian chicken in this program, as part of its efforts to diversify agricultural exports.

The new agreement reinforces Brazil's strategy of expanding partnerships in Asia, prioritizing markets with growth potential for agribusiness products and greater technological integration in sanitary control and food safety.
