Braga Netto is working to prevent Heleno from being a vice-presidential candidate on Bolsonaro's ticket.
Military officials close to the Minister of Defense argue to Bolsonaro's interlocutors that Heleno is too old and has little influence in the Armed Forces.
247 - The group of military officers linked to Defense Minister Walter Braga Netto has been working to reduce the chances of GSI Minister Augusto Heleno being chosen by Jair Bolsonaro (PL) as his vice-presidential candidate this year, reports Bela Megale of the newspaper. The Globe.
Braga Netto's allies, in conversations with Bolsonaro's interlocutors, argue that Heleno does not exert the same leadership over the troops as the Minister of Defense. They also cite Heleno's advanced age, which, in the group's view, means he lacks the necessary stamina to hold the position.
The group further argues that Braga Netto's influence within the Armed Forces will be an important foundation for Bolsonaro's reelection.
They also point out that Heleno has previously criticized members of the Centrão bloc in Congress, and that this fact causes discomfort among the political class. In 2021, Heleno stated: "If you shout 'catch the Centrão,' not one will remain, my brother."
Heleno's allies, on the other hand, presented Bolsonaro with polls conducted in far-right groups that indicate the GSI minister's name as the preferred choice to occupy the vice-presidential position.
