247 - Jair Bolsonaro (PL) nominated Julio Cesar Vieira Gomes, former head of the Federal Revenue Service, for a position in Paris, the capital of France. Gomes had previously attempted to release jewels sent as a supposed "gift" from the Saudi Arabian government to former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro. The diamonds were seized by customs at Guarulhos Airport.

Vieira Gomes was appointed Federal Revenue attaché in Paris on December 30, 2022, the day after a Bolsonaro aide went to the airport to retrieve the jewels, details Andréia Sadi, from g1

>>> Bolsonaro is stunned by the repercussions of the R$ 16,5 million bribe he received from Saudi Arabia.

The appointment was signed by then Vice-President Hamilton Mourão, who was acting as President of the Republic that day, since Bolsonaro had traveled to the United States to avoid attending President Lula's (PT) inauguration ceremony. "The position was created on December 26th and the decree was published in an extra section of the Official Gazette of the Union on December 30th," the report states. The Finance Minister of Lula's (PT) government, Fernando Haddad, cancelled Vieira's appointment.

It was only after a conversation between Vieira Gomes and Bolsonaro that the aide to the former occupant of the Planalto Palace... Mauro Cid He sent an official letter to the Federal Revenue Service informing them that Navy Sergeant "Jairo" would be going to Guarulhos Airport. It was the last attempt to recover the jewels.

Mourão also appointed as an attaché of the Federal Revenue Service in the United Arab Emirates "another tax auditor suspected of acting in favor of Bolsonaro's interests: José de Assis Ferraz Neto, then undersecretary-general of the Revenue Service, who allegedly pressured the agency's inspector general not to investigate the breach of tax secrecy of adversaries of the former president's family."

The tax attaché positions are seen as a "self-imposed exile" plan for the top officials of the Internal Revenue Service, who fear investigations into possible irregularities committed in conjunction with the Bolsonaro government.
