247 - The government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) incinerated medications used to treat rare and high-cost diseases. In total, the medications are valued at R$ 13,5 million. This information was obtained... by the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper, through the Access to Information Law (LAI).
"Among the missing items are two doses of Spinraza, each purchased for R$160 by the federal government. Used for patients with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), the therapy is one of the most expensive in the world," according to the newspaper.
Tests and medications intended for people with HIV, valued at R$ 8,5 million, were also destroyed.
Also discarded were 949 units of Translarna. The medication is used in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which causes progressive muscle degeneration – the batches cost R$ 2,74 million to public coffers.
