Forum Magazine - President Jair Bolsonaro's predatory zeal shows no sign of letting up, and the latest chapter in his environmental devastation policy was a decree issued on Wednesday (13), which allowed the destruction of caves across the country so that "projects", including mining, can be built in these locations.

In Brazil, all caves located in environmental licensing zones receive a classification according to their relevance, on a scale defined as maximum, high, medium, or low. This stratification determines how they can be explored. With the new decree, published in the Official Gazette of the Union, all of them may give rise to a project considered to be of "public utility".

Also at risk are the areas surrounding the underground cavities, since the text signed by Bolsonaro allows activities regardless of their level of importance.
