247 - President Jair Bolsonaro has chosen Navy Rear Admiral Sérgio Ricardo Segovia Barbosa to head the Export Promotion Agency (Apex). The information comes from journalist Cristiana Lôbo, from Globonews, who says the appointment should be published by this Wednesday (24) in the Official Gazette of the Union.

Segovia's appointment comes after a crisis at the agency. The first president of Apex in the current administration, Alecxandro Carreiro, remained in office for less than ten days. Ambassador Mario Vilalva took over and was dismissed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ernesto Araújo. Vilalva left accusing Araújo of being "disloyal" and acting in bad faith against him.

Unlike Vilalva, Segovia will have autonomy to choose the directors of the agency, which is linked to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has the function of promoting Brazilian products and services abroad and attracting foreign investment to strategic sectors of the Brazilian economy.

According to the journalist, Segovia's appointment represents a victory for the military core of the government over the ideological one. Segovia previously held the position of Deputy Chief of Strategic Intelligence at the Ministry of Defense.
