Bolsonaro says he wants the vice-presidency of the Senate to prioritize amnesty.

The plan is to bring the issue to the forefront in the absence of the Senate's president-elect and to grant amnesty to the coup plotters.

247 - Jair Bolsonaro (PL) makes no secret of his strategy to try and avoid prison for the attempted coup of January 8th. In an interview, he states that he is working to have an ally occupy the vice-presidency of the Senate to enable the voting on a bill granting amnesty to those imprisoned for the coup attempts of January 8th.

According to Bolsonaro, occupying the position will allow the proposal to move forward during any absences of Senator Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), the favorite to be re-elected president of the Legislative House on February 1st.

"We are negotiating the first vice-presidency. In Alcolumbre's absence, you can put, for example, the amnesty bill to a vote. We don't want to wait for a possible right-wing president to be elected in 2026 to resolve this only in 2027," Bolsonaro declared in an interview on the program. West Without Filter, West Magazine.

Bolsonaro also reiterated his denial of involvement in the January 8th events. According to him, his absence from Brazil during those events proves his innocence. "I was in Orlando. They want to say that I organized a coup with Goofy, Donald Duck, and Minnie Mouse by my side," he quipped.

Bolsonaro was indicted by the Federal Police for involvement in a group that planned a democratic rupture. He downplayed the accusations, stating that his stay in the United States was peaceful and that he even received invitations to live in the country, but preferred to return to Brazil.
