A report from the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper. highlights that "Bolsonaro also defended the nomination, posting an image of a Petrobras statement with Nagem's resume on a social network. "The era of appointees without technical qualifications is over, even if many don't like it. We are on the right track!", wrote the president.
The article adds that "Nagem has already run for public office twice under the name Captain Victor, in reference to his background at the Naval Academy, but did not get enough votes to be elected on either occasion. In 2002, he ran for federal deputy for Paraná and in 2016, for city councilor of the Paraná capital. In that campaign, he had the support of the current president of the Republic, who appears in a video asking for votes for the one he calls a "personal friend."
