Sputnik Brazil - A decree published this Thursday (5) in the Official Gazette by Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo determined the removal of four Brazilian diplomats and 11 chancery officers from Venezuela.

This gesture marks another step in the distancing of Jair Bolsonaro's government from Nicolás Maduro's administration.

Two diplomats were removed from the Brazilian Embassy in Caracas, one from the Brazilian Consulate General in the city, and another from the Brazilian Consulate in Ciudad Guayana.

Also included on the list are six chancery assistants, two chancery officers, two administrative agents, and one administrator.

In addition to Caracas and Ciudad Guayana, the vice-consulate in Santa Elena de Uairén, a city near the border with Roraima, also lost staff.

According to Veja magazine, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry (Itamaraty) has begun dismantling its consular network in the neighboring country, reducing the number of Brazilian diplomatic posts in Venezuela from five.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs may hire a security company to protect the Embassy in Caracas, but the fate of the Brazilian properties in the country is still unknown, as is what will happen to the Venezuelan employees.

The complete removal process, however, according to the newspaper O Globo, can take about two months.
