247 - Jair Bolsonaro signed this Tuesday (15) the decree that practically releases the possession of weapons in the country; when signing the text, he showed the pen as if it were his weapon. "The people decided to buy weapons and ammunition and we cannot deny what the people wanted at this moment," he said in his speech. Bolsonaro used a concept that does not exist in the Constitution and laws of the country, that of the "good citizen," who would be privileged with the release of the use of weapons. According to him, the decree is to guarantee that the "good citizen can have his peace inside his home." In the speech he also said that "the good citizen, with all certainty, will be able to make use of these weapons."

The text allows citizens to purchase up to four firearms. The validity of the registration increases from the current 5 years to 10 years.

The right to own a firearm is the authorization to keep one at home or in the workplace, provided the firearm owner is the legal owner of the establishment. To carry a firearm in public, one needs a permit to carry, which requires stricter rules and was not addressed in the decree; it will be regulated later, according to the Bolsonaro government's intentions.

The signing of the decree took place shortly after the ministerial meeting coordinated by Bolsonaro every Tuesday at 9 am in the Planalto Palace, since he took office on January 1st.
