247 - Allies of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) are experiencing a "bomb week," a term used by the parliamentarians and leaders of the PL themselves, according to Bela Megale, from the newspaper. The GlobeIn less than seven days, impactful political events shook Bolsonaro's base both inside and outside Congress.

The sequence began last Wednesday (17), when the urgency procedure was approved for the vote on amnesty for Jair Bolsonaro and those convicted for the acts of January 8, 2023. The measure coincided with the proximity of the analysis of the so-called Shielding PEC — a proposal that makes it difficult to investigate parliamentarians. On Sunday (21), demonstrations against the two agendas surprised by their size, even surpassing reference acts of the right, such as the September 7th demonstration on Avenida Paulista.

Pressure on leadership and internal friction.

The PL party's choice to prioritize amnesty and protection almost simultaneously has generated intense criticism within the right itself. Leaders Sóstenes Cavalcante and Zucco, in the Chamber of Deputies, and Rogério Marinho, in the Senate, have become the target of complaints from colleagues who accuse the move of weakening the Bolsonaro narrative.

This episode added to the political setback for Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP). Appointed by his party as minority leader to avoid the counting of absences that could result in his expulsion, the congressman saw the maneuver blocked by the Speaker of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB). Furthermore, the Ethics Committee opened proceedings against Eduardo, who was also indicted by the Attorney General's Office (PGR) for coercion, accused of encouraging sanctions in the United States to interfere in trials in Brazil involving his father.

Trump praises Lula at the UN

The most unexpected event of the week occurred during the UN General Assembly. US President Donald Trump, who has always been seen as an ally of the Bolsonaro family, praised President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Trump stated that he had "great chemistry" with the Brazilian, which caused significant discomfort within the Bolsonaro camp.

“He seems like a really nice guy, he likes me and I liked him. And I only do business with people I like. When I don’t like them, I don’t do business with them. When I don’t like someone, I don’t like them. For 39 seconds, we had great chemistry and that’s a good sign,” Trump declared in his speech.

The gesture by the US president was interpreted as a symbolic blow to Bolsonaro's supporters, who are trying to preserve the image of exclusive closeness with Trump. Behind the scenes, Bolsonaro's allies admit to fearing that the relationship between Trump and Lula will improve, which could definitively bury the attempt to approve the amnesty.
