Benedito Gonçalves would be Lula's candidate for the Supreme Court.

Minister Benedito Gonçalves, of the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), who appears alongside Gilson Dipp in the photo, reportedly has the support of Lula and the PT (Workers' Party), but the arrangement could fall apart given the tradition of always having a representative from the Northeast region on the Supreme Court.

Benedito Gonçalves would be Lula's candidate for the Supreme Court.

The candidate is Benedito Gonçalves, from the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), but the move risks falling apart. Read more below in Vera Magalhães' column in Folha de S.Paulo:

Block... With Lula's approval, members of the Workers' Party (PT) want to install Benedito Gonçalves, a minister from the Superior Court of Justice, on the Supreme Federal Court (STF). He would fill the vacancy left by Carlos Ayres Britto from Sergipe, who retired in November. The appointment of his replacement is expected by the end of the month.

... in the street Members of the Supreme Court say that, despite the former president's support, the success of the move is unlikely. This is because the court would break with the tradition of maintaining at least one representative from the Northeast, a practice observed since 1808. Like Luiz Fux, Gonçalves is from Rio de Janeiro.
