Barbosa releases agenda to justify per diem expenses.

The Brazilian Supreme Court website published the complete agenda of Minister Joaquim Barbosa for his trip to Europe, for which he will receive 11 daily allowances (more than R$ 14) for two lectures – one of them lasting only 30 minutes; the note states that "the president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), who would officially be on vacation until the end of January, will interrupt his rest period to attend invitations" from two educational institutions; the meetings, without great relevance, seem to have been publicized only to silence criticism.

247 - After disclosure While acknowledging he would receive over R$ 14 for 11 days' worth of expenses, paid by the Supreme Federal Court, for two days of lectures in Europe (one of which lasted only 30 minutes), the Court's president, Minister Joaquim Barbosa, released the complete agenda for the trip, with meetings that appear to have been arranged to justify the additional payments.

Below is text published on the STF website:

The President of the Supreme Federal Court participates in conferences in Paris and London.

The president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Minister Joaquim Barbosa, who was officially on vacation until the end of January, will interrupt his rest period to accept invitations extended to him several months ago by the University of Paris-Sorbonne, the president of the Constitutional Council of France, and King's College London.

Minister Joaquim Barbosa will represent the Court at colloquiums and conferences at the two aforementioned institutions – of indisputable academic prestige. In addition to these commitments, between January 20 and 30, 2014, the president will also visit and reciprocate visits to authorities in both countries.

In all meetings, the president will address topics related to the functioning of Brazilian institutions, especially the Supreme Federal Court. Airfare will be paid by the universities that extended the invitations.

The invitation to give a lecture in Paris was extended by Professor Dominique Rousseau of the Sorbonne. King's College extended an invitation upon learning of the president's trip to Europe.
