Aury Lopes Jr: 'What fear do you have of Lula's voice?'
"A portion of humanity has become inhumane. The existential pettiness of those who vociferously opposed the judicial authorization, especially those who claimed he would be making a 'political speech,' is even greater today. My God, how afraid you are of this man's voice," emphasized the jurist Aury Lopes Jr.
247 - The jurist Aury Lopes, one of the most renowned criminal procedure experts in the country and author of several works, rejected what he called the "existential pettiness" of those who opposed former President Lula's right to attend the funeral of his brother, Vavá, and now his grandson, Arthur, who is only 7 years old.
"A portion of humanity has been inhumane. The existential pettiness of those who vociferously opposed the judicial authorization, especially those who claimed he would be making a 'political speech,' is even greater today. My God, how afraid you are of this man's voice," the jurist emphasized on his social media page.
On January 29th, Lula lost his older brother, Vavá, and after an unusual delay and a staged event, his request for release was denied by the Curitiba court. The former president's defense appealed to the Supreme Federal Court, but authorization was granted when the funeral was already underway and with several conditions imposed.
Unfortunately, Lula faced a new family tragedy. His grandson died on Friday (1), a victim of meningitis. After the shameful decision in the case of his brother Vavá, which highlighted the exceptional treatment given to the former president, the Curitiba Court was forced to respect the law and authorize the former president's release.
Aury said that, like any grandfather, Lula "cried, suffered," and "devastated by the death of a grandson," returned to prison. According to him, the former president gave his speech "in silence, asking God to lovingly receive his beloved grandson."
"He must have asked Dona Marisa to receive his grandson while his turn hasn't yet come. Perhaps he complained fiercely about the reversal of the order. I would have done the same. And he must have asked that crazy question: why not me, in his place?", he wrote.
Without naming names, the jurist criticized those who, like Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of President Jair Bolsonaro, argued that the courts should not authorize Lula's release. According to Aury, saying that the right of any imprisoned grandfather to bury his grandson should be ensured is "giving an obvious answer to a mediocre question."
And he concludes: "I would like to ask for a little reflection from these people, who often speak in the name of God, but are consumed by hatred. Who confuse political differences with an absolute lack of sensitivity and humanity. By the way, at least today, spare me the hateful comments. Just today."
