Attacks by Eduardo Bolsonaro and Weintraub on China weaken Brazil.

The attacks by Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro and Education Minister Abraham Weintraub against Brazil's largest economic and commercial partner have generated a harsh response from China, signaling a shift in the country's diplomacy.

247 - "Speaking ill of China has a cost. Attacks like those of federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro and the Minister of Education, Abraham Weintraub, leave Brazil in a fragile position and help the Chinese government to obtain concessions from Brazil in negotiations," writes journalist Patrícia Campos Mello, citing a warning from Oliver Stuenkel, professor of international relations at FGV-SP and author of the book "The Post-Western World: Emerging Powers and the New Global Order."

"The academic believes that Beijing will probably not retaliate in an obvious way against Brazil, such as ceasing exports of masks and ventilators," the journalist continues.

"But the diplomatic reaction to Eduardo and Weintraub's statements reveals 'that China no longer shys away from confrontation, and it knows that many groups [in Brazil] depend on a good relationship' with the Chinese, such as businesspeople and agribusiness."
