Eduardo Bolsonaro's political maneuvering in the US backfires, according to allies of the congressman.

The congressman produced evidence against himself and alienated his own electoral base by orchestrating Trump's tariff hikes.

247 - Brazilian congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), currently on leave from his position, has faced criticism from his own allies after staging a move considered rash against Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. According to Paulo Cappelli, from... MetropolisThose close to the congressman assessed that he made a strategic error by publicly acknowledging the coordination of sanctions against Moraes and the Brazilian economy with the United States government, then presided over by Donald Trump.

The prevailing opinion behind the scenes is that Eduardo Bolsonaro's mistake was "showing too much attention." According to these allies, he should have opted for a more discreet approach: "After the Trump administration began discussing sanctions, Eduardo should have adopted a more 'low profile' approach, instead of publicizing his every action in the White House."

The congressman's overexposure on social media ended up being used against him. Alexandre de Moraes began to consider the content of the publications as evidence of attempted coercion during the course of the proceedings and obstruction of an investigation involving a criminal organization, both on the part of Eduardo and Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Another sensitive point, criticized by the congressman's allies, was the announcement of sanctions that economically affect Brazil, especially the agricultural sector—historically aligned with Bolsonaro's base. According to these allies, the move ended up producing the opposite effect to what was desired: undermining support within the conservative camp.

According to parliamentarians close to the matter, Eduardo's international offensive should have targeted public officials exclusively—such as Moraes himself—without affecting economic sectors that are strategic to Bolsonaro's movement. The attempt to further damage the Supreme Court Justice's image resulted, according to these sources, in more political losses than gains.
