Following Renan's defeat, MDB will only have one seat on the Senate's Board of Directors.

Despite having the largest bloc in the Senate, the MDB party, led by Renan Calheiros (AL), only managed to nominate one member for the House's Board of Directors; the party, which has always held important positions, will not have either of the two vice-presidencies; but Renan is still trying to secure at least control of the CCJ (Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee).

247 - Despite having the largest bloc in the Senate, Renan Calheiros' (AL) MDB party only managed to nominate one member for the House's Board of Directors. The party, which has always held important positions, will not occupy either of the two vice-presidencies.

According to a report by SheetThe party is to occupy the Second Secretary position in the Senate, which, according to the internal regulations, is responsible for drafting the minutes of the secret sessions, reading them, and signing them after the First Secretary.

In the meeting with party leaders, Senator Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM) even tried to argue that the House usually follows proportionality, meaning that the largest parties choose the positions they will occupy first. However, weakened by Renan's defeat in the race for the presidency, the senator opted not to engage in polemics.

"Proportionality is a very important criterion during the most challenging times in Parliament. If you don't have criteria, you end up creating deadlocks. But, obviously, we recognize that there is a political circumstance. There was a dispute, we didn't win it, and they are putting the Second Secretary position up for the MDB," stated Eduardo Braga.

According to the newspaper, the first vice-presidency will be held by the PSDB party, although no name has yet been defined. Antonio Anastasia (MG) is being considered for the position. The second vice-presidency will go to Podemos.

The First Secretary position will go to the PSD. The Third Secretary position will go to the PSL, which will nominate Flávio Bolsonaro (RJ), son of President Jair Bolsonaro and the target of an investigation due to atypical financial transactions and suspicions involving employees of his office when he was a state deputy in Rio de Janeiro.

The Fourth Secretary position could go to either the PP or the PT. Whoever loses gets the first alternate position. The remaining alternates will be from the PDT, PSB, and PPS parties.

Keeping an eye on the CCJ.

It seems that Renan preferred to throw in the towel in the discussion of the Board, in order to focus all the pressure on the dispute for the presidency of the Constitution and Justice Commission, the CCJ, the most important of them all.

The MDB claims the presidency of the commission because it has the largest caucus, with 13 of the 81 senators. But the group opposed to Renan Calheiros will only accept it if the nominee is Simone Tebet (MDB-MS), who faced the senator from Alagoas in the internal dispute and later in the plenary for the presidency of the Senate, which ended up splitting the caucus. Simone declared her support for Davi Alcolumbre, who ended up being elected president.
