247 - Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) has granted, for the first time in the country, a type certificate for manned hot air balloons. The certification covers five models manufactured by the Brazilian company Rubic Balões, with a capacity for up to 13 people.

These devices are the first in the country to meet the requirements of Brazilian Civil Aviation Regulation (RBAC) No. 31, which establishes airworthiness criteria for manned free balloons.

Unlike balloons used in sporting activities, the certified models have undergone analyses based on international safety and standardization criteria. ANAC (Brazilian Civil Aviation Agency) also evaluates the manufacturing of components and monitors tests on items such as baskets, fabric, and burners, as well as assembly, piloting, instrument use, and final inspections.

Type certification allows the production of balloons for commercialization, but each balloon still needs to be individually inspected by ANAC (Brazilian Civil Aviation Agency) to obtain the Standard Airworthiness Certificate, a document that officially authorizes the aircraft to fly. The certification request was made in March 2022, and the process lasted three years and three months.
