Altman: the only way out for Brazil is Lula's presidential candidacy.
"History calls for Lula to be a candidate. What name can unify enough forces to defeat Bolsonaro and neoliberalism?", argued journalist Breno Altman on the Bom Dia 247 program. Watch.
247 - Journalist Breno Altman, participating in the Bom Dia 247 program this Monday (3), argued that “the only way out for Brazil is Lula’s presidential candidacy”. “What is the name that can unify forces enough to defeat Bolsonarism and neoliberalism?”, he questioned, stating that the PT member is the only leader in the country today with “the strength to unify a large popular and anti-imperialist front”.
In his view, Lula has not yet positioned himself as a candidate, "because he is acting cautiously at this moment."
Altman emphasized that discarding Jair Bolsonaro and "maintaining the neoliberal policies that have been destroying Brazil since Michel Temer is not a solution either." "What good would it do to defeat Bolsonarism and elect a Doria government? Are we just swapping one bad situation for another? The name that stands against Bolsonarism and the neoliberal project is Lula," he added.
According to him, the process that sentenced Lula and caused him to lose his political rights, within the scope of Operation Lava Jato, should be strongly challenged. “Even my dogs know it’s a false judicial decision. If the people don’t want the former president, they can simply choose another candidate at the polls; what’s unacceptable is for a corrupt judge like Moro to define his rights,” he opined.
The journalist, however, explained that annulling these proceedings against Lula, and consequently placing him in the 2022 presidential race, "is to break the plans of the liberal and ultraliberal right, since the contest would be between the former president and Bolsonaro."
